According to reports, he travelled to Nepal on his first foreign visit after taking charge of the Indian Army, where he was welcomed by senior Nepal Army officials. During the visit, he was also scheduled to receive the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army. However, his photograph is being linked to a dance video from an event organised by the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), accompanied by objectionable claims about him. Our research found no credible evidence confirming that General Dhiraj Seth attended the event or was associated with the activities shown in the video. Therefore, linking his photograph from the Nepal visit to the dance video is misleading.

To verify the viral claim, we conducted a reverse image search using keyframes from the video. During this process, we found the video on Instagram. The text “BSF Wives Welfare Association” was visible on the backdrop behind the stage. However, there was no mention of Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth anywhere in the video.

During our research, we found the original video of Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth shared by ANI. According to the report, General Dhiraj Seth arrived in Nepal on a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening defence ties between the two countries.

In the final stage of our research, we found a report on an Instagram account named ‘nepalinlast24hours’. According to the report, Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth arrived in Kathmandu on his first foreign visit after taking command of the Indian Army on June 30, 2026. He was welcomed by senior Nepal Army officials at Tribhuvan International Airport.
The report stated that during his four-day visit, General Seth was scheduled to meet Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah and Nepal Army Chief Ashok Raj Sigdel. Additionally, he was scheduled to be conferred with the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army at a special ceremony at Sheetal Niwas on Monday.This tradition between India and Nepal dates back to 1950. Under the arrangement, the army chiefs of both countries are conferred with honorary military ranks in each other’s armies.

Fact Check
We conducted a reverse image search using keyframes from the viral video. During the search, we found a report published on the Dainik Bhaskar website on February 23, 2022, which featured the same video. According to the report, polling in Sonbhadra was scheduled for March 7 as part of the seventh phase of the Assembly elections. During the election campaign, Bhupesh Chaubey, the BJP MLA and candidate from the Robertsganj Assembly constituency, was seen adopting an unusual approach. He stood on a chair, held his ears and performed sit-ups on the chair, apologising to the public for the mistakes he had made over the previous five years.The link to the report and a screenshot are provided below.
In the next stage of our research, we found a report published on ABP News’ Hindi website on February 25, 2022, which featured the viral video in a general context. We found the same video in this report as well. The link to the report and a screenshot are provided below.
Conclusion

In a similar instance, a video of Delhi Police DCP Sumit Jha is being widely shared, claiming that he resigned from the Indian Police Service in support of the student movement. In the viral video, DCP Sumit Jha is allegedly heard saying that he is resigning from his post with immediate effect and cannot be part of a system that forces him to spread false information against students. The video is being shared with the claim that Delhi Police DCP Sumit Jha resigned from his position in support of protesting students.
CyberPeace Research Wing’s research found the claim to be false. The research revealed that DCP Sumit Jha has not resigned. The viral video was digitally altered by adding AI-generated audio to an original video shared by the Delhi Police on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on July 23, 2026. The manipulated video is being circulated with a false claim.

Fact Check
To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords. However, we did not find any credible news report or official information confirming that Delhi Police DCP Sumit Jha had resigned in support of the student protest. During the research, we found a post shared by the official X account of Delhi Police on July 26, 2026. In the post, Delhi Police clarified that a fake and AI-generated video of DCP Sumit Jha was being circulated on social media, falsely showing him resigning in support of the student protest.
Delhi Police also reshared the original video of DCP Sumit Jha, which was posted on July 23, 2026. According to the caption, 480 Pakistan-based social media handles involved in coordinated disinformation campaigns were identified and blocked. Delhi Police appealed to students and young people to remain cautious of such foreign accounts attempting to spread rumours and misinformation. In the 54-second original video, DCP Sumit Jha can be seen warning people against misinformation circulating on social media. He stated that more than 400 Pakistan-based social media handles had been identified for spreading fake content and rumours. He said the objective of such accounts was to provoke people and mislead students.
DCP Sumit Jha appealed to citizens not to trust fake posts, edited videos, or content shared by anonymous social media accounts without verification. He also said that peaceful protest is a democratic right and that Delhi Police respects this right.

A comparison between the original video and the viral video showed that the statements in both videos are completely different. The original video of DCP Sumit Jha does not contain any statement related to his resignation or support for the student protest, as claimed in the viral video. Further, the viral video was analysed using the AI detection tool HIVE Moderation. The tool’s analysis indicated that the audio used in the video had a 91.8% probability of being AI-generated, confirming that the audio was not authentic and had been artificially created.
Conclusion
The research found that Delhi Police DCP Sumit Jha has not resigned from his post. The viral video has been digitally manipulated by adding AI-generated audio to an original video and is being shared with a false claim on social media.

To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we extracted several key frames from the video and conducted a reverse image search using Google Lens. The search did not reveal any credible news report, official source, or reliable information confirming that the video showed real flood visuals from Assam. During the research, we found a report published by Aaj Tak on July 27, 2026. According to the report, the flood situation in Assam remained severe, with several deaths reported and more than 7.05 lakh people affected across nine districts of the state. The report link and screenshot are provided below.
As the video appeared suspicious, we analysed it using the AI detection tool HIVE Moderation. The tool’s analysis indicated a 98.8 percent probability that the video was AI-generated, suggesting that it was not a real recording.
Further research was carried out using another AI detection tool, DetectVideo.AI, which found a 77 percent likelihood of the video being AI-generated.
For additional verification, we extracted key frames from the viral video and analysed them using another AI detection tool, AI or Not. The tool’s assessment indicated a 96 percent probability that the visuals were AI-generated.
Conclusion
The research established that the viral video is not from a real flood incident but was created using AI. While flooding in Assam is a real situation, this AI-generated video is unrelated to the actual floods and is being circulated on social media with a misleading claim.

During the search, we found the same video uploaded by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army (@easterncomd) on its official X account on July 21, 2026. The original video shows CDS Raja Subramani extending his best wishes to all participating teams of the 135th Indian Oil Durand Cup Football Tournament. There is no mention of any soldier resignations or the Jantar Mantar protest in the original footage.

Fact Check:

During further research, the Desk found the original video on the official YouTube channel of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. In the original video, Rajnath Singh was speaking about the ongoing protests in Delhi.
