#FactCheck: 2023 Manipur Violence Video Falsely Shared as Indian Army Bombing Minority House

CyberPeace Research Wing ’s research found that the claim is false. The viral video dates back to 2023 and shows a house being demolished in Churachandpur during the ethnic violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities in Manipur.

An X (formerly Twitter) user shared the video with the caption: “This is Manipur, not Palestine. The Indian Army is destroying minority houses in Manipur.”
The post claimed that the visuals showed the Indian Army carrying out an attack on minority community houses in Manipur.

Fact Check:
To verify the claim, CyberPeace Research Wing conducted a reverse image search using keyframes extracted from the viral video. During the search, we found the same video shared by NDTV’s official Instagram account on July 21, 2024.
According to the caption of the post, the video was from 2023, when ethnic clashes broke out between the Kuki and Meitei communities in Manipur. The post stated that the incident took place in Churachandpur, where the house of Naorem Ibomcha Meitei was destroyed by the Kuki community during the violence.

Conclusion:
The research found that the viral video is being circulated with a misleading claim. The footage does not show the Indian Armed Forces bombing a minority community’s house in Manipur. It is from 2023 and shows the demolition of a house in Churachandpur during the ethnic violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities.

It also lists two bank accounts—one at Canara Bank (Account No: 90552010165915) and another at State Bank of India (Account No: 40650628094)—allegedly designated for the "Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund."
The statement said,” The government established a range of welfare schemes for soldiers killed or disabled while undertaking military operations in recent combat. In 2020, the government established the 'Armed Forces Battle Casualty Welfare Fund (AFBCWF)', which is used to provide immediate financial assistance to families of soldiers, sailors and airmen who lose their lives or sustain grievous injury as a result of active military service.”

Fact Check:
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) have responded to the viral post stating that it is misleading, and the Government has not launched any message inviting public donations towards the modernisation of the Indian Army or for purchasing Weapons for the army. The only known official initiative by the Ministry of Defence is the "Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund", which is an initiative set up to support the families of our soldiers who have been marshalled or grievously disabled in the line of duty, not for buying military equipment.

In addition, the bank account details mentioned in the Viral post are false, and donations and charitable donations submitted to the account have been dishonoured.
The other false claim says that actor Akshay Kumar is promoting or heading this message-there is no official/disclosure record or announcement related to him leading or sponsoring this project. Having said that in 2017, Akshay Kumar encouraged public contributions of just one rupee per month to support the armed forces, through a web portal called “Bharat Ke Veer”. The platform was developed in partnership with the Ministry of Home Affairs


Citizens have to rely on only official government sources and ignore misleading messages on such social media platforms.

In this article, we will try to understand how countries can maintain their military capabilities with the help of advanced technologies like edge computing.
Edge Computing in Modern Warfare
Edge computing involves the processing and storage of data at the point of collection on the battlefield, for example, through vehicles and drones, instead of relying on centralized data centers. This enables faster decision-making in real-time. This approach creates a resilient and secure network by reducing reliance on potentially compromised external connections, supporting autonomous systems, precision-based targeting, and data sharing among military personnel, drones, and command centers amidst a challenging environment.
A report released by the US Department of Defence in March 2025 found a crucial reality surrounding the operation of hardware relying on outdated industrial-age processes in the digital era. In the case of applications with video, edge computing helps to deliver significant advantages to a wide range of crucial military operations, which include:

- Autonomous warfare systems such as drones, which use a tactical edge cloud computing to get the capability to navigate faster.
- Developing a strong communication and networking capability to secure low-latency communication for troops to stay connected in challenging environments.
- Ensuring predictive maintenance with the help of effective sensors to carry out edge detection and attrition at an early point, thereby reducing equipment failures.

Modern warfare patterns demand faster decision-making and edge computing deliveries by shifting the power of distant servers to the frontlines. The US military is already moving in the direction of deploying edge-enabled systems to prove the nature of sensors and networks to compute at the tactical edge to transform warfighting.
However, it can be understood with the help of an example, as creating fusion in the skies with F-35s. As they have showcased the capability of edge computing by fusing sensor data with MADL (Multi-Functional Advanced Data Link) to create a unified picture, making the squadrons a force multiplier. An example of this was visible when an F-35 relayed real-time tracking data, enabling a navy ship to neutralise a missile beyond its range.

As the changing nature of warfare moves towards adopting software-defined systems, where edge computing thrives as a futuristic military technology, it calls for the need for integration across all domains of warfighting. But at the same time, several imperatives do emerge, such as:

- Developing interoperability among the systems that can function in synergy with all platforms and can function across all domains.

Further investigation reveals the ECRL as a joint venture between Malaysia and China, involving the laying of tracks along the east coast, challenging assertions of Indian railway development. The ECRL's track-laying initiative, initiated in December 2023, is part of China's Belt and Road initiative, covering 665 kilometers across states like Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Selangor, with a completion target set for 2025.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has registered 53 cases related to spreading fake narratives on social media to incite communal sentiments following the blasts at a Christian religious gathering in October 2023. Vijayan said cases have been registered against online news portals, editors, and Malayalam television channels. The state police chief has issued directions to monitor social media to stop fake news spread and take appropriate actions.
In a different corner of the world, the serene backdrop of Kerala was shattered by an event that would ripple through the fabric of its society. The Kalamassery blast, a tragic occurrence at a Christian religious gathering, claimed the lives of eight individuals and left over fifty wounded. In the wake of this calamity, a man named Dominic Martin surrendered, claiming responsibility for the heinous act.
Yet, as the investigation unfolded, a different kind of violence emerged—one that was waged not with explosives but with words. A barrage of fake narratives began to circulate through social media, igniting communal tensions and distorting the narrative of the incident. The Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, informed the Assembly that 53 cases had been registered across the state, targeting individuals and entities that had fanned the flames of discord through their digital utterances.
The Kerala police, vigilant guardians of truth, embarked on a digital crusade to quell the spread of these communally instigative messages.
