CISF, WB - CyberPeace First Responder Session

1. Overview

A comprehensive Cyber Awareness Session was conducted for the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), West Bengal, with the objective of strengthening participants’ understanding of emerging cyber threats and promoting safe digital practices. The session focused on raising awareness about common cybercrime techniques, preventive measures, and effective responses to cyber incidents.

The programme highlighted the growing importance of cybersecurity in an increasingly digital environment, where individuals are frequently exposed to technology-based scams, financial fraud, social media deception, and fraudulent communications through phone calls and messaging platforms.

2. Key Areas Covered

The session addressed several important aspects of cyber safety, including:

  • Technology-Based Scams: Understanding common online scams, deceptive digital platforms, and techniques used by cybercriminals to exploit users.
  • Financial and Payment Fraud: Recognising UPI fraud, phishing links, fraudulent payment requests, and other financial scams.
  • Social Media and Digital Fraud: Identifying fake profiles, impersonation, malicious links, online deception, and other social media-related threats.
  • Messaging and Phone-Call Scams: Understanding suspicious calls, fraudulent messages, OTP-related fraud, impersonation tactics, and social engineering attacks.
  • Preventive Cybersecurity Practices: Promoting strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, secure online transactions, privacy protection, and responsible digital behaviour.
  • Incident Reporting and Response: Emphasising the importance of promptly reporting cybercrime, preserving relevant evidence, and taking appropriate action when a suspicious activity or fraud is detected.

3. Session Outcomes

The session aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge and actionable strategies to identify and respond to cyber threats effectively. It reinforced the importance of verifying suspicious communications, protecting sensitive information, exercising caution while conducting online transactions, and maintaining responsible digital practices.

The programme also emphasised the role of individual vigilance in reducing cyber risks and preventing financial and personal data loss.

4. Participant Engagement

The session reflected strong engagement and highlighted the relevance of cybersecurity awareness in everyday digital interactions. The topics addressed provided participants with practical insights into recognising common cybercrime patterns and understanding the preventive measures required to navigate the digital environment safely.

The engagement underscored the importance of conducting regular cyber awareness initiatives to strengthen cyber hygiene and promote a proactive approach towards digital security.

5. Conclusion

The Cyber Awareness Session for CISF – West Bengal served as an important initiative to promote cybersecurity awareness and encourage safer digital practices. By addressing technology-based scams, financial and payment fraud, social media threats, and messaging and phone-call scams, the programme reinforced the importance of vigilance, informed decision-making, and timely incident reporting.

The session highlighted that effective cybercrime prevention requires continuous awareness, responsible technology usage, and the ability to recognise evolving digital threats. Such initiatives contribute to building a more informed, vigilant, and cyber-resilient community.
