Overview
On 12th June 2026, Google Ananta hosted the CyberPeace First Responder Workshop on Kids & Family Online Safety. Organised by CyberPeace and DELNET in collaborative partnership with Google, this high-impact event was specifically designed to empower individuals to become "First Responders" in the digital space. The main focus was equipping participants with the proactive tools, critical awareness, and practical skills required to build a secure online environment for children and families.
Celebrating Inclusivity & Diverse Participation
True online safety requires a community-wide approach. The workshop was a shining example of deep inclusivity, intentionally welcoming and actively engaging members of the hearing-impaired and LGBTQ+ communities, both in-person and virtually. This hybrid, diverse gathering ensured that underrepresented groups were fully equipped to champion digital safety within their households and social networks.
Key Takeaways for Family Protection
Moving far beyond dry theories, the hands-on session provided practical, actionable insights tailored directly to safeguarding families:
- Proactive Threat Mitigation: Participants learnt how to recognise emerging cyber risks specifically targeting children, such as online grooming, cyberbullying, and malicious scams.
- Managing the Family's Digital Footprint: Attendees were guided through exercises to analyse and secure their own as well as their children's digital footprints, preventing data oversharing and privacy leaks.
- Immersive Crisis Simulation: Through dynamic ice-breakers, "spot the scam" challenges, and real-world role-play activities, participants experienced simulated cyber threats firsthand, learning how to react calmly and effectively in a crisis.
- Deepfake Analysis: Participants learnt how the Deepfake Analysis Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU) of the Trusted Information Alliance, focuses on countering A.I.-generated misinformation.
- Effects of Deepfakes: The very informative and engrossing session on the creation of deepfakes, the agenda behind their creation and the effects of such content on the individuals and society as a whole, reinforced the need for identifying and reporting AI-generated deepfake threats.
- Reporting and Redressal Mechanisms: The workshop provided a clear, step-by-step roadmap on how, where, and when to officially report cyber incidents to platforms and law enforcement agencies.
- Call to Action: Securing the Digital Home
The true value of a CyberPeace First Responder lies in taking the knowledge gained at Google Ananta and putting it into immediate action to protect the next generation.
Key takeaways:
Your Next Steps as a First Responder:
- Initiate the Conversation: Start open, non-judgmental dialogues with your children about their online habits, favourite games, and the people they communicate with online.
- Audit Digital Footprints: Regularly check and update privacy settings across all family devices, social media profiles, and gaming accounts to limit public exposure.
- Establish a Safe Reporting Culture: Ensure your children know that if they encounter something uncomfortable or scary online, they can report it to you immediately without the fear of losing their device privileges.
- Utilise First Responder Tools: Keep the reporting resources, scam-spotting checklists, and national cyber crime helpline details provided during the workshop easily accessible to your entire household.
