1. Executive Summary

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan conducted a series of webinars on “Cyber Security and How to Be Safe Online” during August 2026. The initiative was aimed at strengthening cyber awareness among students and the wider school community and equipping participants with practical knowledge to identify, prevent, and respond to common online threats.

The webinar series covered multiple locations across India, including Delhi, Kerala, Haryana, Assam, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand.

A total of 17 webinar sessions/events were conducted across the reporting period, with participation and engagement recorded from the respective Kendriya Vidyalaya locations.

2. Objectives of the Webinar

The webinar series was organised with the following key objectives:

  1. To create awareness about the growing cyber threats faced by children, students, teachers, and families.
  2. To educate participants about safe and responsible use of the internet.
  3. To explain common cyber frauds, scams, phishing attacks, and social-engineering techniques.
  4. To promote strong password and account-security practices.
  5. To create awareness regarding privacy and protection of personal information.
  6. To encourage responsible use of social media and digital platforms.
  7. To explain how students can identify suspicious links, messages, websites, and applications.
  8. To encourage timely reporting of cyber incidents and suspicious online activities.
  9. To promote a culture of cyber hygiene across educational institutions.

3. Key Topics Covered

The webinar focused on practical cyber-security awareness and included topics such as:

  • Cyber Hygiene:Participants were introduced to basic cyber-hygiene practices, including keeping devices and applications updated, using security software, avoiding unknown downloads, and securing personal devices.
  • Password and Account Security:The importance of strong, unique passwords, multi-factor authentication, and avoiding password sharing was highlighted.
  • Phishing and Social Engineering:Participants were made aware of how attackers use fraudulent emails, messages, calls, websites, and social-media communications to trick users into revealing sensitive information.
  • Online Fraud and Scams:The sessions discussed common forms of digital fraud, including fake offers, impersonation scams, fraudulent links, OTP-related scams, and other social-engineering attacks.
  • Social Media Safety:Participants were encouraged to maintain appropriate privacy settings, avoid oversharing personal information, verify unknown accounts, and think carefully before posting or forwarding content.
  • Mobile and Application Security:The importance of downloading applications only from trusted sources and reviewing application permissions was explained.
  • Cyberbullying and Responsible Digital Behaviour:The webinar also emphasised responsible online communication, respectful digital behaviour, and appropriate action in cases of cyberbullying or online harassment.
  • Safe Internet Usage:Students were encouraged to verify information before trusting or forwarding it and to remain cautious while interacting with unknown individuals online.

The reported participation figures indicate broad representation across male and female participants.

  • Male participants: 67,965
  • Female participants: 60,234
  • Total: 1,28,199

Female participation accounted for approximately 47% of the reported participant base, demonstrating substantial participation by girls and female members of the school community.

The participation data reinforces the importance of making cyber-safety education accessible and relevant to all students irrespective of gender.

  • Strong Participation:The programme recorded more than 1.28 lakh reported participants, demonstrating significant interest in cyber-security awareness and online safety.
  • Student-Centric Awareness:"The sessions focused on practical challenges faced by students, including social-media risks, phishing, online scams, privacy concerns, cyberbullying, and unsafe digital interactions.
  • Practical Cyber-Safety Guidance:Rather than focusing solely on technical concepts, the webinar emphasised simple actions that participants can implement in their daily digital lives.
  • Multi-Regional Outreach:The programme covered major educational centres including Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Lucknow, Varanasi, Ranchi, Jammu, Guwahati, Kolkata, Jaipur, and other locations.

The webinar series contributed to strengthening cyber-security awareness among the school community by:

  • Improving awareness of common cyber threats.
  • Encouraging safer password and account-management practices.
  • Increasing awareness of phishing and social-engineering attacks.
  • Promoting responsible social-media usage.
  • Encouraging students to protect personal and sensitive information.
  • Improving understanding of online scams and fraudulent communications.
  • Encouraging responsible digital citizenship.
  • Reinforcing the importance of reporting cyber incidents rather than ignoring them.

The large-scale participation demonstrates the growing relevance of cyber-security education in schools and highlights the need for continuous awareness programmes.

8. Conclusion

The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan Webinar on “Cyber Security and How to Be Safe Online” was an important awareness initiative aimed at creating a safer and more responsible digital environment for students and the school community. With coverage across 17 locations and a reported participant base of 1,28,199, the programme demonstrated significant reach and engagement. The participation of both male and female students and members of the educational community reflects the broad relevance of cyber-security awareness.
