CFR Session with 6 PB Bn NCC

1. Introduction

A comprehensive Cyber Awareness Session was conducted for the cadets of 6 PB Bn NCC to enhance their understanding of the evolving cyber threat landscape and promote safe and responsible digital practices. The session focused on educating students about common cybercrime techniques, identifying potential online risks, and adopting preventive measures to safeguard their personal information, digital identities, and financial assets.

2. Objectives of the Session

The primary objectives of the session were to:

  • Raise awareness about prevalent cybercrimes and emerging digital threats.
  • Educate students on identifying and preventing technology-based scams.
  • Promote safe practices while using digital payment platforms and online financial services.
  • Highlight the risks associated with social media misuse, digital fraud, and online impersonation.
  • Familiarise participants with common messaging-based scams and fraudulent phone calls.
  • Encourage responsible digital behaviour and timely reporting of cyber incidents.

3. Key Topics Covered

The session addressed several critical areas of cyber safety and online fraud prevention.

Technology-Based Scams: Participants were sensitised to common online scams, deceptive websites, phishing attempts, and fraudulent digital communications designed to steal sensitive information.

Financial and Payment Fraud: The session highlighted risks associated with UPI transactions, QR-code scams, fraudulent payment requests, OTP sharing, and other financial fraud techniques. Students were advised never to disclose banking credentials, PINs, passwords, or OTPs to unknown individuals.

Social Media and Digital Fraud: Participants learned about fake profiles, online impersonation, suspicious links, misleading offers, and other forms of social media-related fraud. Emphasis was placed on maintaining privacy, verifying online identities, and exercising caution when interacting with unknown accounts.

Messaging and Phone-Call Scams: The discussion covered fraudulent messages, suspicious links, impersonation calls, and scam calls designed to create urgency or manipulate individuals into sharing personal information or transferring money.

4. Key Learnings and Preventive Measures

The session emphasised practical steps that students can incorporate into their daily digital activities:

  • Use strong, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication wherever available.
  • Never share OTPs, PINs, passwords, or confidential banking information.
  • Verify the authenticity of suspicious calls, messages, links, and online offers before responding.
  • Avoid scanning unknown QR codes or approving unexpected payment requests.
  • Review social media privacy settings and avoid oversharing personal information.
  • Keep devices, applications, and security software updated.
  • Report suspected cybercrime promptly through appropriate official channels, including India’s National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at https://cybercrime.gov.in or the cybercrime helpline 1930 for financial cyber fraud.

5. Participant Engagement and Outcomes

The session provided participants with practical knowledge of prevalent cyber threats and preventive cybersecurity practices. It reinforced the importance of remaining vigilant while using digital platforms, recognising suspicious online activities, and taking appropriate action when confronted with potential cyber fraud.

The programme also highlighted the importance of cyber awareness among NCC cadets, who can further contribute to promoting responsible digital behaviour and disseminating cyber safety practices within their peer groups and communities.

6. Conclusion

The Cyber Awareness Session for 6 PB Bn NCC served as an important initiative to strengthen students’ understanding of cybercrime prevention and digital safety. By addressing technology-based scams, financial fraud, social media threats, and messaging and phone-call scams, the session encouraged participants to adopt a proactive approach towards cybersecurity.

The programme underscored that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility that requires awareness, vigilance, and informed decision-making. Continued cyber awareness initiatives will play a vital role in building a digitally responsible and resilient generation capable of navigating the online environment safely and confidently.
