1. Overview

A comprehensive Cyber Awareness Session was conducted for Bihar Battalion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), focusing on the growing prevalence of cybercrime and the importance of adopting safe and responsible digital practices. The session aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of emerging cyber threats and equip them with practical knowledge to identify, prevent, and respond effectively to online fraud and cyber incidents.

2. Objectives of the Session

The primary objectives of the session were to:

  • Enhance awareness of common cyber threats and online criminal activities.
  • Educate students on identifying and preventing technology-based scams.
  • Promote safe practices while conducting online financial transactions and digital payments.
  • Highlight risks associated with social media platforms and digital interactions.
  • Improve awareness of fraudulent messaging, suspicious phone calls, and phishing attempts.
  • Encourage responsible digital behaviour and timely reporting of cybercrime.

3. Key Topics Covered

The session addressed several important aspects of cybersecurity and digital safety.

Technology-Based Scams: Participants were introduced to common technology-enabled scams and methods used by cybercriminals to deceive individuals and obtain sensitive information.

Financial and Payment Fraud: The discussion covered digital payment fraud, fraudulent transaction requests, suspicious payment links, and the importance of verifying transactions before authorising payments or sharing financial information.

Social Media and Digital Fraud: Participants were sensitised to online impersonation, fake profiles, deceptive links, fraudulent offers, and other risks associated with social media platforms. Emphasis was placed on protecting personal information and maintaining appropriate privacy settings.

Messaging and Phone-Call Scams: The session highlighted fraudulent messages, phishing attempts, suspicious calls, and social engineering tactics designed to manipulate individuals into disclosing confidential information or transferring money.

4. Key Learnings and Awareness Outcomes

The session emphasised the importance of vigilance and informed decision-making in the digital environment. Participants were encouraged to:

  • Verify the authenticity of messages, calls, links, and online requests before responding.
  • Never share OTPs, passwords, PINs, or confidential banking details with unknown individuals.
  • Avoid clicking suspicious links or downloading files from unverified sources.
  • Use strong passwords, enable multi-factor authentication, and secure their social media accounts.
  • Exercise caution when interacting with unknown people or unfamiliar accounts online.
  • Report suspected cybercrime promptly through appropriate official channels.
  • Preserve relevant digital evidence, such as screenshots, transaction details, and suspicious messages, when reporting an incident.

5. Engagement and Impact

The session reflected strong engagement from the participating students and highlighted the relevance of cyber awareness in their everyday digital interactions. The discussions reinforced the need to recognise warning signs of cybercrime, exercise caution while using digital platforms, and adopt preventive measures to minimise exposure to online threats.

The programme also underscored the importance of extending cybersecurity awareness among young people, enabling them to make informed decisions and contribute to a safer digital environment.

6. Conclusion

The Cyber Awareness Session for Bihar Battalion NCC served as an important initiative to promote cybersecurity awareness and responsible digital citizenship among students. By addressing technology-based scams, financial fraud, social media risks, and messaging and phone-call scams, the session provided participants with practical guidance for navigating the digital landscape more safely.

The programme reinforced the message that cyber safety requires continuous awareness, responsible online behaviour, and timely action against suspicious activities. Such initiatives play a significant role in building a cyber-aware generation capable of recognising, preventing, and responding effectively to evolving cyber threats.
