#FactCheck - The viral audio clip of Rahul Gandhi swearing in as PM is created using AI

Executive Summary:

In a viral video featuring congress leader Rahul Gandhi swearing in as the next Prime Minister of India has been widely circulated on social media platforms. The music and montage video clips of speculations of Rahul Gandhi advancing to Prime Minister’s office as Prime minister that would occur on June 4th - the day of counting for the  lok sabha elections that was shared on social media platforms, created attention among the congress supporters. However, investigative analysis by the Research Wing, CyberPeace revealed that the audio in the video was AI-generated. Utilizing deepfake analysis tools, the team confirmed the artificial nature of the voice clone. There is an increase in the number of political deepfakes scenarios and manipulated videos of celebrities  to spread false political messages as India’s 2024 Lok Sabha elections are going on. 

Claims:

The viral video was circulated on social media with the AI-generated voice clone of congress leader Rahul Gandhi swearing in as the Prime Minister of India.

Fact Check:

Upon receiving the post we thoroughly watched the video clip, in the video we can hear Rahul Gandhi swearing oath for Prime Minister. We downloaded the video and extracted 20 sec of the audio clip. We then ran the audio on two AI audio detection tools. 

  1. The HIVE AI detection tool found the video is  81.2% AI Generated.
  1. The other AI audio detection tool named AI-Spy is used to check the originality of the audio and it is predicted to be AI-generated. 

The overall prediction graph of the AI detection tool clearly shows that at some portion of the audio is 99.14% AI detected.

The red portion is where the AI is much detected which went to 100% at one point. With these facts and analysis, it was found that the viral clip of Rahul Gandhi is AI-generated. Hence, the claim made is false and misleading.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the viral video featuring Rahul Gandhi taking the oath as Prime Minister is false and misleading. The analysis of the audio clip reveals that the audio was AI-generated but not the real voice of Rahul Gandhi. Recently, the Research wing, CyberPeace  has debunked the misinformation of an altered  voice of bollywood celebrity Ranveer Singh criticizing PM Modi. There have been many  misinformation messages that are increasingly prevalent  in political space during the present Lok Sabha election. Netizens need to be aware and detect such fake voice and audio content surfacing on the internet before sharing forward.
